Algebraic Formulation of Elastodynamics: the Cell Method

چکیده
This paper completes a preceeding paper on the algebraic formulation of elastostatics [Tonti, Zarantonello (2009)]. It shows how to obtain a numerical formulation for elastodynamics by avoiding any process of discretization of differential equations, i.e. PDE-free formulation. To this end, we must analyse in more detail the discretization of time by highlighting the need to introduce a dual subdivision of the time axis, as we did for a space cell complex. The mass matrix obtained with the direct algebraic formulation is diagonal.

An Automated Multilevel Substructuring Method for Eigenspace Computation in Linear Elastodynamics
Abstract. We present an automated multilevel substructuring (AMLS) method for eigenvalue computations in linear elastodynamics in a variational and algebraic setting. AMLS first recursively partitions the domain of the PDE into a hierarchy of subdomains. Then AMLS recursively generates a subspace for approximating the eigenvectors associated with the smallest eigenvalues by computing partial ei...
متن کاملA Numerical Boundary Integral Equation Method for Elastodynamics
The boundary initial value problems of elastodynamics are formulated as boundary integral equations. It is shown that these integral equations may be solved by time-stepping numerical methods for the unknown boundary values, A specific numerical scheme is presented for antiplane strain problems and a numerical example is given,
متن کاملOn multi-time-step monolithic coupling algorithms for elastodynamics
We present a way of constructing multi-time-step monolithic coupling methods for elastodynamics. The governing equations for constrained multiple subdomains are written in dual Schur form and enforce the continuity of velocities at system time levels. The resulting equations will be in the form of differential-algebraic equations. To crystallize the ideas we shall employ Newmark family of time-...
متن کاملAn h-adaptive spacetime-discontinuous Galerkin method for linear elastodynamics
We present an h-adaptive version of the spacetime-discontinuous Galerkin (SDG) finite element method for linearized elastodynamics (Abedi et al., 2006). The adaptive version inherits key properties of the basic SDG formulation, including element-wise balance of linear and angular momentum, complexity that is linear in the number of elements and oscillationfree shock capturing. Unstructured spac...
متن کاملA fictitious domain method for unilateral contact problems in non-destructive testing
In this work, we present a numerical method for solving the diffraction of transient elastic waves by cracks of arbitrary shapes in complex media, with Signorini’s boundary conditions on the crack. We use a fictitious domain method based on a mixed displacement–stress formulation for elastodynamics. We propose an off-centered time discretisation scheme for enforcing the stability.
